Parent’s Guide to Sanity in the time of Covid!

Welcome, if you have found this, you are likely a parent, working from home, and looking for some fun and educational activities to keep your children busy and entertained.  With school canceled until summer, and daycares closed it can be tough for parents to juggle both childcare and work.  We hope that this daily resource will help you cope and provide Ecology North sanctioned activities to keep your precious kids busy and learning about the natural world. 

Our staff will sift through the mountain of activities found online, which can help your kids learn in a fun and experiential way about nature and the environment.  We will sort these into themes so you can create some structure for your kids.  If you have ideas, you want to share with us, send your suggestions to admin@ecologynorth.ca

Week 1:

Today we will look at snow, that white fluffy stuff that we love to slide-on, ski-on, or hate to shovel.

What does it look like? Where is it from? And how can you investigate it?

Week 2:

Today we will look at composting, the process that will produce the back gold of the garden. There are a couple of options for home composting: backyard composting and vermicomposting. We have collected six of our favorite resources for these two methods. These resources will deal with how to start composting, what to do for best results, and common troubleshooting if you run into problems.

Week 3:

Today we will look at birds. The return of our feathered friends has begun. Let’s learn about them together! Birds are an important part of our northern ecosystem and can provide us with fun activities such as identifying different species through sight and sound. We have collected six bird-related resources and activities. These resources are suitable for both for kids and adults.

Week 4:

Today we will look at Beavers! The animal that many people associate with Canada. Fun little creatures that build their homes and habitats! Check out the activities below to learn what do they look like, where are they found, and how can you and your kids investigate this animal?
