What is the Young Leaders’ Summit?
The Young Leaders’ Summit (YLS) on Northern Climate Change is a bi-annual, weeklong on-the-land camp that brings together youth, aged 18-30, from across the North to explore the impacts of climate change in northern Canada. YLS offers a unique opportunity for youth to come together, collaborate, identify effective strategies for mitigation and adaptation, and build essential leadership skills that will empower them to become future climate champions.
This year’s Summit is held at Shakat Tun Adventures in Kluane Lake, Yukon, from August 18-22, 2025.
The Young Leaders’ Summit is free for youth between the ages of 18-30. All associated costs and travel expenses are covered, and food is provided.
At the Summit, youth have the opportunity to learn from Elders, researchers, land-users, policy makers, climate advocates, and each other. Youth participate in a variety of learning opportunities, including on-the-land learning, policy debates, panel discussions, art activities, and more. The Summit aims to equip young leaders with the tools and knowledge needed to drive meaningful change in their homes, workplaces, and beyond.
After the Summit, Ecology North provides mentorship opportunities to help youth draw on their climate leadership skills to develop and implement climate-related projects in their home communities. Previous youth participants of the Summit have gone on to achieve significant accomplishments, including winning Arctic Inspiration Prizes for their adaptation projects, with support from Ecology North staff. Many have also pursued careers in monitoring and research, demonstrating the long-term benefits of engagement in our programs.
